French Roulette is played on a standard European wheel with 37 pockets marked by numbers 0 to 36. The one displaying zero is green while 1-36 alternate red and black.
The goal of the game is, as always, to correctly predict which slot the ball will eventually settle in while betting on one or more of possible outcomes – an individual number, a group of numbers, Red/Black, Even/Odd and High/Low.
Since the wheel features only one green pocket, French Roulette offers better odds than the American variant; there’s 1 in 37 chance of guessing the winning number (vs 1 in 38 in American Roulette) and 18 in 37 of choosing the winning color (vs 18 in 38).
The same obviously applies to European Roulette, but its French cousin has one more card up its sleeve and it’s called La Partage. You’ll potentially benefit from La Partage rule if placing Even-Money bets such as Red/Black, Odd/Even and Manque (1-18)/Passe (19-36), none of which win when the outcome of the spin is zero.
If you place your chips on any of these options and the ball lands in green pocket, you’ll receive half of your stake back. In European Roulette, you’d lose it all.
The addition of this rule makes the optimal theoretical return to player increase to 98.65% (vs European Roulette RTP of 97.30%), but only for Even-Money wagers; house edge remains 2.70% for all Inside bets, same as in the European game variant.
On top of the standard Inside and Outside bets available in all three games, players can place Neighbor bets covering a particular segment of the wheel by using a betting area shaped like a racetrack, but also multi-numbered Call bets such as Finale En Plein, Finale A Cheval and Complete bets.
The latter places all Inside bets on a specific number; a Complete bet on 36, for example, places 18 chips to cover Straight Up 36, 33/36 and 35/36 Split bets, 34/35/36 Street bet, 32/33/35/36 Corner bet, and 31/32/33/34/35/36 Line bet.
