Sea Eagles v Rabbitohs – Round 18, 2025
Full-time: The Sea Eagles have won two in a row and their season is back on track as they look to make a charge to the finals. Doubles to Reuben Garrick and Tom Trbojevic fired Manly to a 24-0 lead midway through the second half and it ultimately proved to be a match-winning advantage.
The Rabbitohs fought valiantly and battled their way back into the contest, however the deficit was too great to overcome. Sea Eagles 30 - Rabbitohs 12.
78th minute: Tolu Koula has put an exclamation mark on a solid Manly victory, the centre pouncing on a loose ball and racing 30 metres to score. Sea Eagles 30 - Rabbitohs 12.
77th minute: The Rabbitohs have their third of the night, with Isaiah Tass pouncing on a Jack Wighton grubber. The Sea Eagles were short defensively, Wighton identified the space and produced a perfect kick for his winger. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 12.
Concern for Smith in his return
75th minute: Play has been stopped with concern for Brandon Smith, who fell awkwardly in a tackle. The hooker is playing his first game in more than 300 days after recovering from a serious knee injury. This issue looks to be an ankle concern and he has hobbled from the field. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 4.
73rd minute: The Rabbitohs have come off the boil slightly, with Manly forcing a couple of errors to slow the comeback bid. Tommy Talau has been impressive since coming on to the field and produced a crucial tackle to shut down a charging Tallis Duncan. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 8.
66th minute: Momentum can swing in an instant and it looks to be back in Manly's favour. Isaiah Tass spilled a kick under heavy pressure from Jazz Tevaga and Tommy Talau, with Tevaga letting the Rabbitohs winger know about it. South Sydney held firm defensively however they are now camped deep inside their own half. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 8.
Tallis Duncan 2nd Try
63rd minute: Momentum has well and truly shifted and the locals are starting to get a little nervous at 4 Pines Park. A break down the right edge put the Bunnies on the attack and they finished it off a couple of plays later when Tallis Duncan beat multiple defenders to score his second of the match.
Jason Saab has also left the field for Manly, with Tommy Talau taking his place on the wing. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 8.
Tallis Duncan 1st Try
60th minute: The Rabbitohs are on the board after Tallis Duncan crossed out wide. The platform for the try came through the middle thanks to a Brandon Smith run that stretched the defence and Duncan capitalised in his first game as a centre. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 4.
Try July: Old Man Cherry
54th minute: Manly have turned defence into attack, producing a left to right shift from inside their own half. Daly Cherry-Evans did a superb job holding up the defence through the midfield, before the ball eventually made it to Jason Saab, who hared down the sideline. The winger linked up with Cherry-Evans for the try. Sea Eagles 24 - Rabbitohs 0.
Daly Cherry-Evans Try
53rd minute: It's been a busy day for the Bunker, with another possible Rabbitohs try sent upstairs. There's been a contest for the ball, with Campbell Graham knocking it forward before Tyrone Munro picked it up and grounded the ball in the corner. No try is the ruling and Manly maintain their clean sheet for now. Sea Eagles 20 - Rabbitohs 0.
51st minute: Another blow for the Rabbitohs, with forward Liam Le Blanc succumbing to back spasms and ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Dark storm clouds are also starting to descend on 4 Pines Park, with the heavens expected to open towards the end of the second half. Sea Eagles 20 - Rabbitohs 0.
Tom Trbojevic 2nd Try
44th minute: Tom Trbojevic has sliced his way through the defensive line for his second try of the match. There was an appeal from the Rabbitohs for an obstruction, but the play has been cleared and the Sea Eagles have extended their lead.
In positive news for the visitors, Jai Arrow passed his HIA and returned to the field at the start of the second half. Sea Eagles 20 - Rabbitohs 0.
Kick off: We are back for the second half. South Sydney have plenty of work to do to get back in the contest but they've done well to stay within 14 and will look to strike first to kickstart their comeback bid. Sea Eagles 14 - Rabbitohs 0
Half-time: A crucial moment at the end of the half, with Tom Trbojevic creating a half chance, but his pass to Reuben Garrick did not go to hand. South Sydney have done well to keep their opponents within touching distance and defended their line valiantly throughout the final minutes of the first half. With so many changes before the game, it's not surprising the Rabbitohs attack looked a little clunky in the opening 40. If they can find their rhythm after the break, we could be set for a fascinating second half. Sea Eagles 14 - Rabbitohs 0.
38th minute: Another trip to the Bunker, this time for a possible Manly try. Lehi Hopoate was surging towards the line against a retreating South Sydney defence, however the defenders got under the ball and held the fullback up.
Meanwhile, Jai Arrow went off for an HIA, with teammate Liam Le Blanc leaving the field with some back soreness. He will be assessed before medical staff determine if he will return. Sea Eagles 14 - Rabbitohs 0.
35th minute: We are off to the Bunker for a possible Rabbitohs try, however Campbell Graham knocked the ball forward when he went up to contest a bomb and the Sea Eagles will receive a 20m tap and seven-tackle set.
As this was happening, Jai Arrow left the field and walked straight up the tunnel, so we'll keep an eye on him. Sea Eagles 14 - Rabbitohs 0.
Reuben Garrick 2nd Try
32nd minute: The Sea Eagles have taken complete control now. Another penalty by the Rabbitohs put the host back on the attack and they capitalised, with Reuben Garrick stepping back inside to finish off a well-executed left shift. Sea Eagles 14 - Rabbitohs 0.
Tom Trbojevic 1st Try
29th minute: There's been plenty of end to end action throughout the past few minutes, with Manly turning defence into attack before Tom Trbojevic forced a Rabbitohs error in a contest for a bomb. The centre received a reward for his effort a few plays later, stepping off his right foot to score. Sea Eagles 10 - Rabbitohs 0.
Tatola just in time
23rd minute: The tide has turned in Manly's favour now. The hosts have received a penalty for a tackle without the ball and have another chance to attack and extend their lead. The Rabbitohs, however, have held firm, with Tevita Tatola stopping a charging Tolu Koula a couple of metres out from the line and forcing an error in the process. Sea Eagles 4 - Rabbitohs 0.
Reuben Garrick 1st Try
20th minute: The successful captain's challenge has quickly delivered a result. Manly executed a well-worked shift to the left edge, with Tom Trbojevic drifting across from right centre to the left and linking up with left centre Tolu Koula, who sent Reuben Garrick over in the corner. Sea Eagles 4 - Rabbitohs 0.
18th minute: Manly forced a line drop out to keep the pressure building before Corey Waddell bobbled the ball and regathered. The referee initially ruled a knock on, but the Sea Eagles have successfully challenged the ruling and remain on the attack. Sea Eagles 0 - Rabbitohs 0.
15th minute: Matthew Lodge has produced a big shot on Lachlan Hubner to force an error and the Sea Eagles have an attacking set of six as they look to strike first. Sea Eagles 0 - Rabbitohs 0
11th minute: The match has settled into an arm wrestle, with extended periods of ball in play leading to some early fatigue among both sides. Manly were looking to gain the upper hand, however Daly Cherry-Evans had a kick charged down and the visitors have some good field position. Sea Eagles 0 - Rabbitohs 0.
5th minute: Manly have forced an error to deny the Rabbitohs an early try, much to the delight of a packed hill on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Brookvale. The Sea Eagles are now looking to find their groove and claim the upper hand. Sea Eagles 0 - Rabbitohs 0.
Kick off: We are underway at a packed 4 Pines Park, with Daly Cherry-Evans kicking off. South Sydney are without a host of stars, but never write off a Wayne Bennett-coached side. Manly steadied the ship with a win over the Wests Tigers last week, but they've made an error in the opening minute of the contest and the Rabbitohs will have an early chance to strike. Sea Eagles 0 - Rabbitohs 0.
Late Mail
Sea Eagles: Tommy Talau is set to make his return from hamstring tightness via the interchange bench, with Jason Saab retaining his spot on the wing. Manly will be without veteran forward Nathan Brown, who was ruled out with a ruptured biceps tendon. Tom Trbojevic will line up in the centres for the second-straight week, with Lehi Hopoate to start at fullback. No changes late on game day, with Michael Chee Kam the 18th player.
Rabbitohs: In a game day change, Kiwis hooker Brandon Smith will make his long awaited Rabbitohs debut and is set to start in his first appearance since rupturing his ACL in the final round of last year's competition while playing for Sydney Roosters. Smith joined the Rabbitohs mid-season and was listed among the reserves for the trip to Brookvale, but coach Wayne Bennett said on Saturday that the 13-Test veteran would come into the side after Euan Aitken was ruled out with a leg injury. Siliva Havili moves to the bench. Tallis Duncan is at centre, with Jacob Host replacing him in the second-row. Ryan Gray has also been promoted to the interchange in a switch with English playmaker Lewis Dodd, who is listed as 18th man. Veteran Cody Walker has failed to overcome a hamstring injury suffered last week. Latrell Mitchell's NSW selection will see Alex Johnston shift to fullback as he continues his quest for the all-time try-scoring record.

Venue: Allianz Stadium, Sydney
Fulltime: Take a breath! The Tigers have held on and claim a 30-28. They set it up with a huge opening to the first half, going up 20-0. However, the Roosters came roaring back and were only down 20-10 at the halftime break. The Tigers started strongly again to start the second, before they went into their shells a bit, allowing the Roosters to get momentum back. The home side threatened to steal the game at the death after captain James Tedesco was able to score, but in the end, the Tigers did just enough to hold on and break their six-game losing streak. The Fainu brothers Latu, Sione and Samuela all scored in the win as well.
80th min: It's all happening. James Tedesco scores. They take the conversion and Smith is successful. There is now five seconds left on the clock and the score is 30-28.
79th min: Some great defence from the Tigers, pushing Rodwell out on the right touchline as the Roosters were trying to get out of their half. Next up, the Tigers earn a penalty for a late tackle and Doueihi steps up to slot a vital penalty goal to stretch the lead to 30-22.
74th min: So much life and time left in this game with Nawaqanitawase doing it himself again to score his second. Smith converts and it's 28-22. The Tigers have had their chances to put the game to bed, but wasted their opportunity with the ball when down in their attacking 10, putting themselves under pressure in the final five minutes of the game.
56th min: Roosters finally get some joy down the right side, making a break before going back inside to Savala who slides over to score. Smith is successful with the conversion to narrow the scores to 28-16.
52nd min: Some massive defence by the Tigers on their tryline, slamming Rodwell over the sideline as he seemed destined to score.
All effort from the Wests Tigers
49th min: Another penalty goal for a high tackle, with Doueihi successfully slotting the ball over for a 28-10 lead.
46th min: A successful captain's challenge from the Roosters, with the Bunker overruling a call saying they played at a ball last before it went over the sideline.
43rd min: A third Fainu is now on the scoring sheet, with Samuela Fainu running onto a Doueihi short ball on a good line to score. The halves did well for the Tigers to link up in the middle of the field to go out to the left, before the second rower cut back inside into space. Doueihi converts to put his team up 26-10.
43rd min: Roosters forward Egan Butcher comes off the field for a HIA.
Halftime: After the Tigers screamed out of the block to post a 20-0 lead with an energetic opening to the game, the Roosters collected themselves and posted the final two tries of the half to take positive momentum into the halftime break. The Tigers lead 20-10 and will be aiming to start the second half with the same energy as the first, while the Roosters will be hoping they start with the same intent they finished the first half with.
39th min: The momentum has shifted to the home side and Mark Nawaqanitawase scores an impressive try just before the break, stepping out of would-be tacklers and reaching over to slam the ball down. This time Smith converts and it's 20-10.
34th min: The Roosters are finally on the board after Daniel Tupou goes up and over Charlie Staines in contest for a Hugo Savala kick and comes back down to earth with the ball, touching it down to score. Sandon Smith's conversion attempts comes off the post and the Tigers lead 20-4.
Daniel Tupou Try
30th min: Given a short ball by elevated hooker Tristan Hope close to the line, Sione Fainu is able to muscle his way over the line for the third try of the afternoon. Doueihi again converts and it's now 20-0 for the visitors.
26th min: Latu Fainu scoops up a dropped ball from the Roosters and runs straight down the middle of the field to score underneath the posts. Doueihi slots the goal from right in front for an early 14-0 lead.
18th min: Doueihi puts the Tigers further ahead after slotting a penalty goal awarded when Ethan Butcher was deemed to have tackled Sunia Turuva high. Tigers lead 8-0.
10th min: Instead, it is the Tigers who get on the board first, with Charlie Staines getting over on the right. Adam Doueihi slots the kick for a 6-0 lead.
Charlie Staines Try
3rd min: Tom Rodwell is denied a dream try on debut with the Tigers scrambling well in defence to hold him up.
Kick off: Roosters kick us off and will be looking to continue the winning form of their NRLW team who have recorded a Round 1 win against the Warriors.
Late Mail
Roosters: After being 18th man on seven occasions this season, Ethan King finally gets his chance after being called into the centres to replace Billy Smith in a change when the squads were trimmed to 19 players on Saturday. Tom Rodwell, the son of former Blues centre Brett Rodwell, will make his NRL debut on the wing with Mark Nawaqanitawase moving into the centres to replace Robert Toia, who is in camp with the Maroons. The loss of Connor Watson, Angus Crichton, Spencer Leniu and Lindsay Collins has also prompted Trent Robinson to rework his forward pack, with Makahesi Makatoa to start for the second time this year and Benaiah Ioelu to line up at hooker. No changes on game day.
Wests Tigers: One late change, with Jack Bird out, moving Tony Sukkar into the second row to start. Kit Laulilii is on the bench and Brent Naden the new 18th player. Earlier, injuries, suspension and Origin unavailability are set to see the Wests Tigers roll out a new-look spine on Sunday afternoon. Sunia Turuva will shift to fullback, with Adam Doueihi and Latu Fainu in the halves and Tristan Hope at hooker. Alex Twal will captain the side at lock, while forward Charlie Murray is set for his second NRL game after being added to the bench.
