NRLW Late Mail: Round 1 - Mixed news for Roosters

The Telstra Women's Premiership is ready to kick off for 2025 with two new teams and 50 per cent more games than last season.

The biggest and best NRLW season ever includes debut club the Bulldogs and also the Warriors, back in the competition after a five-year absence.

The Roosters will be without star playmaker Tarryn Aiken (shoulder) when they launch their title defence against the Warriors on Sunday but Corban Baxter is set for her first NRLW match since September 2023 after she missed all of last season with an ACL injury.

Bulldogs: Halfback Tayla Preston and prop Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa will captain the Bulldogs in their inaugural NRLW match. Ash Quinlan will link up with Preston in the halves, while former Shark Andie Robinson has won the race for the fullback jersey. Tegan Dymock, the daughter of Bulldogs premiership winner Jim, will continue the family's long association with the club when she starts at prop. No changes in Thursday's 24-hour update with Hope Millard and Elizabeth MacGregor retained in the squad.

Knights: Bo Vette-Welsh will start at fullback as Newcastle enter a new era in 2025. Joeli Morris is set to step into the No.9 jumper with Olivia Higgins suspended, while Jesse Southwell and Georgia Roche will play in the halves. Broncos: Jillaroos star Julia Robinson is set to start in the centres for the first time since 2020, with Kerri Johnson and Hayley Maddick to line up on the wing. Tamika Upton will line up at fullback in her return to the Broncos and will co-captain the side alongside halfback Ali Brigginshaw. New Zealand star Gayle Broughton has been named at five-eighth, with Jada Ferguson rounding out the spine at hooker. Young Maroons prop Keilee Joseph will lead the Brisbane pack while Romy Teitzel will look to make an impact as an edge-forward.

Wests Tigers: Coach Brett Kimmorley has named a young halves duo of Evie McGrath and Losana Lutu as he looks to develop the next generation. Raiders: The off-season departure of Apii Nicholls has opened the door for Cheyelle Robins-Reti to shift to fullback, with Mackenzie Wiki and Leianne Tufuga in the centres. Former Australian OzTag representative Georgia Thomas is set to make her NRLW debut, with the 27-year-old to line up at five-eighth alongside halfback Zahara Temara. Fijian playmaker Sereana Naitokatoka will be available in Round 2 after serving a suspension incurred in the trial game against Newcastle.

Dragons: Kasey Reh and Raecene McGregor will combine in the halves as the Dragons look to get their season started with a win. Zali Hopkins will start at hooker, with new recruit Nita Maynard to make an impact off the bench in her first game for the club. Former Knight Hannah Southwell is set to add crucial experience to the pack and will start at lock.
