League Stars: Respect

The complex and challenging 21st Century world in which we live requires all of us, in schools and out of schools, to equip children and young people with the knowledge and understanding, skills, attitudes and values to not simply live but also thrive.

While schools are required to deliver many priorities through the curriculum, Respect is increasingly being recognised across the World as a fundamental competency children and young people need to acquire and develop in schools. There are two key dimensions to learning Respect.

Students will learn about:

  • What respect means
  • What respect “looks like” – the relevant actions and language
  • The kind of behaviours that are appropriate (and in some cases inappropriate) in different situations.
  • The benefits for self (respect for oneself) and others when respect is shown and/or received.

Students learn to:

  • Behaving in respectful ways
  • Using respectful language
  • Taking action and responding in situations by showing respect.
  • Identifying respectful (and in some cases disrespectful) behaviours, language and attitudes.
