NorthStar Gaming, the Toronto-based online casino and sportsbook operator, has announced that it is ready to expand its reach from Ontario to all the other Canadian provinces.

The company launched its services in Ontario in May 2022, after having secured a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. In preparation for that moment, NorthStar Gaming had secured an agreement with Playtech, the global supplier of technology, slot games and live dealer games for online casinos.

Now the company’s online casino and sports betting platform, NorthStarBets.com, will be available across all provinces and territories in Canada, while customers in Ontario will continue to be served by NorthStarBets.ca. The achievement was made possible by two previous moves made by the Canadian company.

First, in May 2023, NorthStar Gaming reached an agreement to acquire Slapshot Media, a company which delivers marketing and operational management services to sports betting and iGaming operators. This allowed NorthStarBets.com to be made available through a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, acquired through the Slapshot Media deal.

The second step was made in September 2023, when NorthStar Gaming entered a subscription agreement with Playtech, already an investor in the Canadian company. The global gaming giant agreed to purchase further NorthStar Gaming securities worth 10 million Canadian dollars, thus financing the company’s expansion into the other Canadian provinces.

A Ground-Breaking Step

Michael Moskowitz, the Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of NorthStar Gaming described this move as a “ground-breaking step” for the company as it seeks to become “a truly national brand.”

The NorthStar Gaming CEO added that he is confident that the company will have a competitive edge due to the fact that it is based in Canada and understands the customers in the country better than the international competitors.

“We expect the Canada-wide launch to be an important catalyst that drives growth in our customer base and revenues for years to come,” Michael Moskowitz concluded. The Canadian online sports betting and iGaming market is estimated to reach a total value of 8.5 billion dollars by 2026, and the Ontario market accounts for just 30 percent of that.
