The government of New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state, has announced that the Independent Casino Commission, the new regulator of gambling in this territory, has taken charge starting September 5.
The New South Wales Independent Casino Commission replaces the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) as the government body in charge of regulating gambling in the state.
The decision to create a new regulator in New South Wales came after the famous Bergin inquiry, which investigated Crown Resorts to see whether the operator was suitable to hold a casino license at Barangaroo in Sydney.
Kevin Anderson, the Minister for Hospitality and Racing in New South Wales, named the team that leads the Independent Casino Commission, which includes Philip Crawford, the former chair of the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority.
The minister stated that one of the most urgent tasks for the new regulator is to review the report into The Star and its suitability to hold a casino license in the state, along with the continued supervision of the activities of Crown Sydney.
